Visit Elephant Seals Drakes Beach
Event Description
Head to Drakes Beach in Point Reyes National Seashore to view massive elephant seals during their breeding and pupping season from January–March. The beach itself is closed and hours are limited to protect both seals and visitors, but you can watch from the parking lot and the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center.
-Reduced hours during elephant seal season: 10 am–4 pm
-Bring binoculars or a camera with a zoom lens to better see seals
-When watching, speak quietly and move slowly to avoid startling seals
-Wear layered clothing — West Marin weather can be unpredictable
-Visitor center open Fri–Sun, 10 am–5 pm
-Drinks and snacks available at the visitor center store
-Restrooms and drinking water available
